One of the biggest advantages? They’re freezer-friendly! This makes them perfect for meal prepping ahead of a busy week or preparing for a large event. I once doubled this recipe for my sister-in-law’s baby shower, serving them alongside my popular Swedish Meatballs. As is tradition in Italian households, we made far too much food, but the leftover meatballs were a blessing. Everyone raved about their incredible taste, and they made for fantastic meatball sandwiches and quick pasta dinners in the days that followed. Their versatility truly knows no bounds.
The Secret to an Exceptional Marinara: Tuttorosso Tomatoes
The foundation of any truly great Italian meatball dish is, without a doubt, a rich and flavorful marinara sauce. For this recipe, I rely on the unparalleled quality of Tuttorosso tomatoes. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you might recall my incredible trip to Indianapolis with a group of fellow food bloggers, where we had the privilege of visiting Tuttorosso. My passion for their products runs deep; I’ve exclusively used Tuttorosso in my kitchen long before our partnership, and for good reason. As a family-owned business, their dedication to quality and tradition resonates deeply with my own cooking philosophy.
A Legacy of Flavor: My Family’s Connection to Tuttorosso
In a previous post, I shared how my father, a 100% Italian who adored cooking, always chose Tuttorosso. His love for food and culinary craftsmanship was a huge inspiration for starting this blog five years ago, and it continues to guide my passion. During my visit to Indiana, I had the wonderful opportunity to share with the Tuttorosso team how their products were a staple not just for my father, but also for my husband’s Italian grandmother. The fact that two generations of proud Italian cooks trusted Tuttorosso speaks volumes about the consistent quality and authentic flavor they deliver.
I vividly remember calling my dad from the grocery store whenever I attempted to recreate his famous Sunday sauce. He was the one person I could always count on to pick up the phone, day or night. His unwavering advice? “Get the stuff in the bright green can!” I truly believe he would have been incredibly proud of the rich, aromatic marinara sauce I created for these Slow Cooker Italian Meatballs, a sauce that truly honors his culinary legacy.
Behind the Can: An Unforgettable Tuttorosso Experience
Our trip to Indiana with Tuttorosso was more than just a culinary tour; it was an immersive journey into the heart of quality food production. Beyond indulging in delicious meals, including an unforgettable lunch at Bluebeard in Indianapolis, we were treated like royalty and even attended a fantastic food photography workshop led by Amanda from Heartbeet Kitchen. We explored Triple S Farm, their pristine tomato farm, and embarked on a truly fascinating tour of their canning factory. The experience culminated in a farm-to-table dinner at a local creamery, showcasing the incredible bounty of the region.
One of the most touching aspects of the tour was on our final day at the Red Gold headquarters. The Tuttorosso team prepared lunch for us, featuring a tomato dish from each of our blogs! These thoughtful touches, combined with their warm hospitality, made the entire experience incredibly personal and memorable. It truly highlighted their commitment not just to their product, but to the people who create and enjoy food.
From Farm to Can in Under an Hour: The Tuttorosso Difference
My absolute favorite part of the factory tour was witnessing, firsthand, the astonishing speed and efficiency with which tomatoes are processed. It was truly remarkable to see tomatoes go from being delivered by truck to being sealed in cans, ready for consumers, in just about 45 minutes! We saw tomatoes freshly picked that very morning being delivered to the factory, and by the end of our tour, they were already canned. This incredible turnaround time is a testament to their dedication to capturing peak freshness and flavor.
The freshness and quality of Tuttorosso products are genuinely unparalleled. I returned home with a wealth of information and a newfound excitement for tomatoes – perhaps a bit dorky, but undeniably true! It’s crystal clear that they deeply care about their product and the consumers who choose it. Using such high-quality ingredients undoubtedly makes a monumental difference in the final outcome of your meals. Trust me on this; when it comes to Italian cooking, the quality of your tomatoes can make or break a dish.
On our last day at the Tuttorosso headquarters, we participated in an eye-opening comparative tasting. We opened and cut tomatoes from various competitor brands, and the difference was astonishing. Tuttorosso, a family-owned business, truly prides itself on the superior quality of its tomatoes, and there’s a good reason they are the best-selling Italian-inspired canned tomato brand in the U.S.
Their tomatoes were consistently the only brand that emerged from the can looking like a perfectly ripe, whole tomato. We meticulously cut into and tasted every brand, and I was genuinely underwhelmed by the texture, appearance, and taste of the competitors’ products. Furthermore, Tuttorosso uses non-BPA lined cans, which means you avoid that unpleasant metallic tin flavor that can often detract from the natural sweetness of tomatoes. It truly is the closest you can get to picking a fresh tomato straight from the garden and bringing it to your plate. Have I convinced you yet of my newfound tomato enthusiasm? I hope so!
Given all that, it’s probably no surprise that the irresistible Slow Cooker Italian Meatballs recipe I’m sharing today features Tuttorosso canned crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. When it comes to flavor, quality ingredients are paramount, and I always choose the best for my recipes.
I truly hope you give these incredible meatballs a try the next time you need a show-stopping appetizer or a comforting, easy dinner idea. They are incredibly satisfying and simple to prepare. You might also enjoy these Bourbon Meatballs from my friend Susan, which are equally versatile as an appetizer or a main course!

Quick and Easy Slow Cooker Italian Meatballs packed with Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley and garlic in a delicious marinara sauce! They work well for dinner served over pasta, a holiday party or a potluck!
Ingredients
- Meatballs:
- 2 pounds meatloaf meat mix (beef, pork, veal combo) OR use all ground beef*
- ¼ cup onion, minced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Sauce:
- 2 (24 ounce) cans Tuttorosso crushed tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can Tuttorosso tomato paste
- 1 whole bay leaf
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- For Serving (Optional):
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Parmesan cheese, grated
- *Alternatively, you can use 1 bag of frozen, fully cooked beef meatballs for a quicker option.
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the meat, minced onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, seasoned breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Form the mixture into 1-2 inch meatballs. This recipe typically yields a little over two dozen meatballs.
- Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Broil the meatballs on high until nicely browned on all sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. This step helps seal in juices and adds flavor.
- Carefully transfer the browned meatballs to your slow cooker/crock pot.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients: Tuttorosso crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, bay leaf, crushed red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Pour this rich marinara over the meatballs in the slow cooker. Stir gently to ensure all meatballs are thoroughly coated in the sauce.
- Cover and cook on the LOW setting for 4 hours. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld beautifully and ensures incredibly tender meatballs.
- Before serving, taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve the meatballs warm, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and/or grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. If you’re serving these at a party or potluck, keep your slow cooker on the “warm” setting to maintain their perfect temperature and deliciousness throughout the event.
