Our recent journey to Mayakoba wasn’t just another trip; it immediately ascended to our top two most cherished vacations ever, second only to the iconic Park Hyatt Maldives. While every getaway offers its own unique charm, the magic of Mayakoba transcends the ordinary. Within hours of our arrival, the worries of the “real world” melted away, replaced by a profound sense of peace found amidst acres of pristine jungle and the glistening Caribbean coastline. This is the essence of Mayakoba – a perfect, secluded haven designed for ultimate relaxation.

First Impressions and Unrivaled Service: A Royal Welcome

The moment you arrive at the Andaz Mayakoba, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere of exclusive serenity. The resort is meticulously designed to offer a secluded and quiet experience, setting it apart from more bustling destinations. From the instant we stepped off the plane, the exceptional service began. We were promptly greeted by a chauffeur, our luggage swiftly tagged and whisked away to our room, and a refreshing welcome drink was in hand within minutes. A chauffeured golf cart then guided us on an insightful tour of the sprawling property, culminating in our luxurious suite. It was a magnificent start to our Mayakoba vacation, a true “royal treatment” that immediately set the tone for an unforgettable stay. This level of personalized care and efficiency is a hallmark of the Andaz experience, ensuring every guest feels valued and pampered from the outset.

Our bi-level suite, perfectly positioned directly on the beachfront, exemplified the Andaz brand’s commitment to modern elegance and comfort. The bed, adorned with premium linens, was incredibly comfortable, ensuring restful nights after days of sun and exploration. Every detail in the room functioned flawlessly, from the large flat-screen TVs in both the living room and bedroom to the convenient in-room coffee maker.

The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring a grand soaking tub, a separate spacious shower, and a huge vanity with ample counter space. What truly elevated the experience were the private patios extending from both the living room and bedroom, offering continuous, breathtaking ocean views. High-end toiletries were provided, mirroring the resort’s overall commitment to quality. A particularly delightful indulgence was the private, heated plunge pool on our downstairs patio, where we could enjoy the ocean vista in complete privacy. The convenience of being just a two-minute walk from the main beach area and the beachside pool further enhanced our stay, making our oceanfront suite the perfect base for our luxury Mayakoba vacation.

The service was consistently fantastic, with staff going above and beyond to ensure comfort and enjoyment. Their attentiveness, from anticipating needs to offering assistance, was truly remarkable. Furthermore, the chefs and servers were incredibly knowledgeable, explaining local ingredients and culinary techniques with genuine passion. Each of the four distinct restaurants at Andaz Mayakoba boasts its own unique identity and menu, all while meticulously catering to dietary restrictions and allergies, including gluten-free options. While guests have the option to dine at other resorts within Mayakoba, we found no reason to venture beyond the Andaz property for any of our meals.

Cocina Milagro: A Vibrant Start to Your Day

Nestled in the lush lagoon area, Cocina Milagro offers an exceptional breakfast buffet that became our daily ritual. We’d hop on our bicycles for a scenic morning ride to the restaurant, greeted by an ever-evolving menu of fresh, delectable items. Chefs would even stroll through the dining area, offering guests warm, freshly baked pastries straight from the oven. Executive Chef Vincent Wallez and Food & Beverage Manager Stefan Karl deserve immense credit for crafting such a flawless culinary experience here. My personal highlight? Indulging in generous servings of chips and guacamole from the buffet each morning – yes, even for breakfast, it was that good!

OllaCeviche: Oceanfront Dining with Mexican Flair

Our final evening culminated with a delightful dinner at OllaCeviche. Situated right on the ocean, this restaurant boasts comfortable patio seating that offers an unparalleled dining experience with a view. Their menu is a market-style feast, featuring an impressive selection of tacos, authentic Yucatán specialties, and fresh seafood fare, ensuring there’s something to please every palate. The drinks and food here were both utterly outstanding, making it a perfect choice for a memorable meal accompanied by the soothing sounds of the waves.

For a more sophisticated culinary experience, Casa Amate is the epitome of fine dining at Andaz Mayakoba. We chose it for our anniversary celebration, and it did not disappoint. This restaurant presents Latin American specialties within a unique “residential concept,” where each beautifully themed room feels like you’re dining in an exquisite private home. The food was incredibly flavorful, and the service was exemplary. Whether you opt for the intimate indoor setting or the charming outdoor terrace, especially picturesque at dusk, you’re guaranteed a memorable meal. I particularly recommend the empanada trio – a true highlight!

OllaTaco: Casual Beachside Delights

OllaTaco quickly became our undisputed favorite for its casual charm and mouthwatering Mexican cuisine. Offering an abundance of classic Mexican dishes, Yucatán specialties, and an excellent selection of local craft beers, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxed meal close to the beach. I wholeheartedly recommend their margaritas, the incredibly fresh and flavorful guacamole (seriously, one of the best I’ve ever had!), and their chicken tacos. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, OllaTaco consistently delivers fresh, tasty food in a fun, vibrant atmosphere.

The Andaz Mayakoba’s property is a study in exquisite design and integration with nature. Its “quaint, beautiful, and private” aesthetic is immediately apparent, with impeccably maintained grounds and stunning lighting throughout. As a relatively new resort, many of the plants are still maturing, and I eagerly anticipate seeing the lush vegetation fully grown on future visits. The resort perfectly embodies the Andaz brand’s signature “young and modern” vibe, making it feel fresh and vibrant. What’s truly remarkable is that even if this luxury resort were situated away from the coast, its inherent charm and facilities would still make for an incredible stay – the breathtaking beach is simply an added bonus.

Speaking of the beach, this stretch of Mexico offers a uniquely “ocean-like” experience rather than the tranquil, still waters typically associated with the Caribbean Sea. Nevertheless, the sand was pristinely white, and the water was delightfully warm and crystal clear, ideal for swimming and enjoying the vibrant coastal atmosphere. The expansive layout of the resort, intelligently divided between the lagoon side and the beach side, makes exploring an adventure in itself. Guests have several delightful transportation options: swift golf cart rides, serene boat journeys through the canals, or my personal favorite, bicycling. The resort thoughtfully places bikes strategically throughout the property, ensuring you never have trouble finding one. The routes are predominantly flat, making for an easy, enjoyable ride – and a fantastic way to work off all that delicious guacamole and chips! The staff are always on hand, proactively offering rides or arranging pick-ups from your room, making getting around seamless and stress-free.

Immersive Eco-Adventures: Discovering Mayakoba’s Rich Wildlife

Beyond its luxurious amenities, the Andaz Mayakoba truly shines through its commitment to integrating with the natural environment. The property is a sanctuary of lush vegetation and diverse wildlife. I finally encountered coatis, fascinating native animals, and, while I diligently searched, the elusive spider monkeys remained a mystery for this trip. A highlight of our stay, and an absolute must-do for any guest, was the complimentary eco-tour. This captivating 45-50 minute ferry boat ride through the lagoon offers an incredible opportunity to observe a plethora of wildlife. As an avid animal lover, especially of birds, I was utterly thrilled! We spotted several small crocodiles, large turtles, various lizards, and a vibrant array of colorful waterfowl and exotic birds. We enjoyed the tour so much that we went twice, and were delighted to discover different animals on our second excursion. A special shout-out to our fantastic tour guides, Sergio and Cesar, whose passion and knowledge truly enhanced the experience. For our anniversary, our wonderful host Cristina even arranged a special private eco-tour, complete with champagne and fresh fruit – a truly thoughtful and unforgettable gesture.
