Ingredients You’ll Need for Your S’mores Pie
This recipe calls for simple, readily available ingredients that perfectly capture the essence of s’mores:
- Softened Butter: Forms the base of your rich, crumbly crust.
- Granulated Sugar: Adds a touch of sweetness to balance the salty graham crackers.
- Egg & Vanilla: Essential binders and flavor enhancers for the crust.
- All-Purpose Flour: Provides structure to the graham cracker crust.
- Graham Cracker Crumbs: The star of the crust, delivering that unmistakable s’mores flavor.
- Baking Powder: Helps achieve the perfect texture in your crust.
- Marshmallow Creme: The secret to that incredibly gooey, fluffy marshmallow layer.
- Hershey’s Chocolate Bars: Classic milk chocolate is key for authentic s’mores flavor, melting into a luxurious layer.
- Mini Marshmallows: These go on top and toast beautifully, adding another layer of classic marshmallow goodness.
- Chocolate Chips: A final sprinkle for extra chocolatey delight and visual appeal.
Step-by-Step Guide to Making the Perfect S’mores Pie
- Prepare Your Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 9-inch pie pan with baking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour, graham cracker crumbs, and baking powder until a soft dough forms.
- Form the Crust: Divide the dough in half. Press one half evenly into the bottom and up the sides of your prepared pie pan. This forms your delightful graham cracker crust.
- Layer the Marshmallow Creme: Carefully spread the entire container of marshmallow creme evenly over the bottom crust. This will be the wonderfully gooey heart of your pie.
- Add the Chocolate: Unwrap your Hershey’s chocolate bars and separate the squares. Arrange them neatly on top of the marshmallow creme layer. Don’t worry if they don’t cover every inch; they will melt and spread beautifully.
- Top with Marshmallows: Sprinkle the cup of mini marshmallows generously over the chocolate layer.
- Add the Top Crust: Take the remaining half of your dough. Pat small sections of dough onto and around the marshmallows. The goal is not to completely cover them, but to create a rustic, crumbly top that allows the marshmallows to peek through and toast.
- Final Touches & Bake: Sprinkle the ¼ cup of chocolate chips over the top. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the crust is lightly browned and the marshmallows are golden and puffy.
- Cool Completely: Remove the pie from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool. This step is crucial! Cooling completely (preferably for at least 2-3 hours or until firm) prevents a messy slice and allows all the layers to set perfectly.
- Serve & Enjoy: For the ultimate gooey experience, I love to warm up individual slices slightly in the microwave just before serving. This makes the chocolate and marshmallow wonderfully melty and irresistible!
Tips for the Perfect S’mores Pie Every Time
- Don’t Rush the Cooling: This is arguably the most important tip. While it’s tempting to dive in immediately, allowing the pie to cool completely (at room temperature or even briefly in the fridge) ensures clean slices and perfectly set layers. A warm pie will be a delicious, but very messy, puddle.
- Use Softened Butter: For an easily workable crust dough, ensure your butter is truly softened to room temperature, not melted or straight from the fridge.
- Quality Chocolate Matters: While Hershey’s milk chocolate is classic for s’mores, feel free to experiment with your favorite chocolate bars. Dark chocolate can add a sophisticated touch, or a mix of milk and semi-sweet can be divine.
- Marshmallow Creme vs. Marshmallows: The marshmallow creme creates a smooth, intensely gooey layer, while the mini marshmallows on top provide that delightful toasted, slightly chewy texture. Don’t skip either for the best results!
- Watch the Bake Time: Ovens vary, so keep an eye on your pie during the last few minutes. You want a beautifully golden-brown top, but not burnt marshmallows.
- Storage: Store any leftover pie loosely covered at room temperature for up to 2-3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat slices gently in the microwave for a fresh-baked gooey texture.
Serving Suggestions and Customizations
This S’mores Pie is fantastic on its own, but you can elevate the experience even further. Serve it slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream for an extra special treat. A sprinkle of sea salt flakes over the chocolate can also enhance the flavors beautifully.
Feel free to customize your pie! Consider adding a layer of peanut butter for a peanut butter s’mores twist, or sprinkle some chopped nuts into the crust for added crunch. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate, such as dark chocolate or chocolate-hazelnut spreads for a unique flavor profile.
